Water and Cloud Share the Same Source

Product Description

The original painting of Water and Cloud Share the Same Source fully illustrates Liu Kuo-sung’s mastery of mixed media, in his effort to represent the beauty of nature and to reach a higher level of artistry, especially in employing the playful effects of “Water-rubbing.” In order to emphasize the interaction between ink and water, as well as to vividly and naturally recreate the sensation of the original in printmaking, silkscreen print was chosen.
What “Water-rubbing” shares with printmaking is the certain degree of spontaneity in the creation process. While silkscreen print has rational characteristics, in the application of colors, each layer renders and blends slightly with the last, mimicking the interaction of ink and water and accurately recreating the essence of the original painting. In the making of this silkscreen print, the composition was divided in three parts: sky, mountains, and water; and drawn onto individual plates and printed with its own respective colors. The overall image was composed in over twenty runs of overlaying colors.
