During the Ink Asia 2017 art fair at the Hong Kong Convention Centre, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston made a decision to include Xue Song’s painting, Spring Colors, 2013, as part of the Museum’s permanent collection, through the help of a generous donor. The MFA has an extensive collection of Chinese art, ranging from the classical master Shen Zhou, to contemporary artists including Liu Xiaodong and Zhan Wang. Wu Tung Senior Curator of Chinese Art, Nancy Berliner commented that the lines of Xue Song’s landscapes are reminiscent of the brushwork of the Ming Dynasty master Shen Zhou.
This year in 2017, Sweden’s leading air purifier company Blueair is entering the Chinese market, and inviting artist Xue Song to act as spokesperson, and to custom design the front panels of their three top purifier models. The one-of-a-kind custom designs were debuted on November 10, during the opening of the Art 021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair, at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.
Taiwan’s National Cultural Award ceremony was held at the Executive Yuan on April 27, 2017. Liu Kuo-sung, artist Cheng Shan-hsi and director Tsai Ming-liang were recipients for this year. Premier Lin Chuan and the Minister Cheng of the Ministry of Culture personally addressed the event and commended Liu Kuo-sung for his contributions to the modernization of Chinese ink painting. Liu Kuo-sung, however, was a bit under the weather and his daughter Liu Lin-hui accepted the honor and expressed thanks on his behalf.
