This spring, Loftyart Gallery presents, Boundless Realms – The exhibition brings together paintings by two women artists: Vancouver-based Lyse Lemieux and Los Angeles-based Xiong Wei.

Lyse Lemieux‘s practice has long been driven by conceptual inquiry, tracing her sustained exploration of the interaction between the female body and clothing. Only human beings adorn themselves with textiles—a phenomenon shared across cultures worldwide. Dress can serve as a marker of personal identity and a means of uniting a community. Yet it can also distinguish the individual from the collective, or separate one group from another.

Xiong Wei’s works resemble visual poetry. At first glance, her paintings appear dim, hazy, and rendered in subtle tonalities. Beneath this atmospheric surface lies both meticulous rational inquiry and a profound abstract sensibility. Through delicate gradations of colour, rhetorically charged lines, and cloud-like sweeping shadows, she articulates her intellectual understanding of the world, her metaphysical insight, and her accomplished painterly technique.
