In Lyse Lemieux’s interdisciplinary practice, she seamlessly integrates found materials and traverses effortlessly between painting, sculpture, and installation. Uniting her diverse oeuvre is an underlying thread of abstract creativity and human emotion. The connection between the human figure and the materiality of textiles is an on-going theme and metaphor in Lemieux’s work. She explores its ever-changing relationship, including socio-economic development and aesthetic trends. Her work not only reveals her reflections and observations as an artist, but also her experiences and beliefs as member of society.

For Lyse Lemieux, the unpredictability of the world and the countless contradictions within is an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Her canvases are filled astonishment, anxiety, and even sorrow, especially in the deliberate placement of replicating dots and sharp interlaced lines. However, in each work, raw emotions are presented with humour and wit. Bright colours, whimsical gestures, and child-like innocence relieve the emotional tension and delight the painted image. With elegance and grace, Lemieux navigates through the troubled waters of her art.
