Fire and Water

Catalog
The Art of Xue Song

Xue Song walked through fire and ran with the flames. From the ashes of old, a new art is born; tradition is deconstructed and repurposed in a contemporary context, like turning a new leaf on an ancient tree.

While his inspiration is fueled by fire, the creative process is nourished by water. Each and every collage clipping is burned, but also soaked in water. The element of water allows the images to be rearranged while being pasted onto canvas. Dancing around the canvas, coming together in a new composition, they are brought back to life. In a cycle of destruction and rebirth, a song of fire and water is sung through the ages.
